Singapore: 3-weeks Jail Time for ABUSING Filipina maid

 =========================================================
Our non-profit  blog was inspired by a Filipina domestic from the Middle East who left her newborn baby – with placenta still attached – at the Bahrain Gulf Air airplane toilet - upon landing in Manila, read her story here lhttp://filipina-nannies-caregivers.blogspot.ca/2013/05/this-blog-was-inspired-by-filipina.html.  Her despair and desperation inspired this blog to gather all possible stories in order to help, to inform and to empower all Filipina nannies, caregivers and maids -- to liberate themselves from abuses of all forms:  physical, rape, verbal, exploitation, overtime working without pay....  Send us your stories.  Stay anonymous - if you like.  (No one can afford to deny this matter anymore).  Write in Tagalog, or your dialect, or English, or French, or any language.  ALL nannies, caregivers and domestic maids are welcome, send your stories to  mangococonutmay1@gmail.com

Jail Time for Filipina Maid Abuse

Many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), tragically, are abused by their employers.  There are stories of OFWs suffering constant beatings, sexual abuse, and even horrendous deaths. Recent cases span from Jordan, Canada, to even Hollywood, California.  This article covers one of the most recent (slightly) successful convictions of abusive employers:

"Singaporean gets 3-wk jail term for abusing Filipino maid

 A Singapore court on Monday sentenced an engineer to three weeks imprisonment for assaulting his Filipino maid.

A Singapore Straits Times report said Xing Likun, 36, admitted using a rolling pin to hit Filipino Irene Israel Miguel on the calf and back and kicking her on the knee on July 17, 2007.

The report said Xing scolded the maid after she gave Vitagen to his daughter. The Singaporean ordered Miguel to face the wall and then hit her on the back and right calf with the rolling pin, causing the maid to fall to the ground. Xing then kicked the maid on the knee.

A Singaporean judge said he gave a light sentence to Xing because of the engineer's impaired judgment and poor impulse control. Xing was given until July 7 to start his sentence as he is in the midst of a project, the report added.

It added that Miguel, 36, started working for Xing in March 2007."

It's also tragic that these are the few cases that are reported and tried in court.  If you have any relatives or friends who are abused overseas, please post your stories here.  We'll push hard to bring these stories into the public's eye.
